4:11PM - January 24, 2004 The thing is, the Boy AKA the Roomie AKA ex-boyfriend... well, he's a grump. And he's in my gaming group, and lately I've been wondering why we even game with him anymore. And apparently, I'm not the only one who's been wondering that. He doesn't like any of the games we like to play, he's openly antagonistic and rude, and last night he sabotaged our game so badly we're going to have to restart or switch to something else. He dishes out the sarcasm and the mean comments, but he can't take it back--he starts complaining about being persecuted and ostracized and blah blah blah. When he makes characters that don't fit in with the group, plays them antagonistically, is deliberately obtuse, we react accordingly. And then he gets mad at us for treating his character poorly. Ugh. Last night God, he crapped with the bathroom door open and kept participating in the game, announcing at one point that he "had brown." AND he got into a physical fight with our friend Jake at one point because we'd been making cracks about plumber butt and the Roomie then proceeded to show us his. How could we not drop a pencil in it, tell me that? And he gleefully and maliciously destroyed our current game before it had barelygot off the ground. We play Ars Magica, a medieval RPG with wizards that we otherwise try to keep historically accurate. I don't know if anybody who's reading this plays this game because it's fairly obscure. We'd decided to challenge ourselves with playing a city covenant, which would of necessity have to be a subtle hidden place. We'd done lots of research, we'd decided to play in Venice, we'd all made up cool characters. We'd also at the start had a bit of fun and made up companion characters for each other. It was a challenge to make a cool character for someone else, and everybody did a good job, except for him. He made a character for me that was a character HE would play, basically a medieval Avril Lavigne. What had I asked for? A high-paid, well-connected courtesan. Yeah. The group let me remake the character. His mage character was a doctor, and he set himself up in St. Mark's square to treat people. He decided he wanted a dead body to dissect, so he had a terminally ill patient come to our buildings, where he killed him and kept him. Of course, the man's wife was upset when he didn't come home, called what passed for local constubulary in medieval Venice, and the authorities came knocking at our door. Seeing as how magic isn't exactly sanctioned by the Church, we had a vested interest in keeping our activities hidden, and he brought the authorities right to our door. My character's door, actually, because she was the one who owned that block of buildings, an inheiritance from her dead husband. As a woman with property, with a possible killer under her roof, she was basically fucked. She would never be able to ply my mask-making trade again, even if she survived the questioning and imprisonment. Leaving was pretty much out of the question because it was her home city, and everything she had was there. The other characters had a few options, all of which included fleeing and hiding, but he basically killed our covenant with his stupidity. I know it's all really childish, but god, I can't stand it anymore. He's so negative about everything, he's no fun to be around anymore. I hope we drop him and move on, actually, though it will mean not playing in my livingroom anymore. This is supposed to be a hobby, a fun diversion, but he's totally sucked the fun out of it. Big stupid-head.
