5:33PM - Monday August 16, 2004 Friday night, Mermaid and I were SO excited to be going camping, we giggled and squealed the entire drive there and met up with Kryptonite in the Dairy Queen in New Minas. Lesson One for the weekend: Moolattes are WAY too sweet for me to drink. *shudder* Anyway, we almost lost Kryptonite on the way to the park because he stopped for beer and didn't tell us. He was supposed to be following us, and then suddenly he wasn't there. We even turned around and looked for him, and then decided to just go and he could catch up. I have to admit to having a bit of anxiety because in previous relationships something like this would have caused a huge fucking fight. However, I just let that all go because Kryptonite is a new relationship, a different person, and he's sane and everything, so I figured, "Meh, it'll be fine." And it was. He'd stopped to get beer, and he caught up with us--there was some good-natured ribbing, and it was done. I have to say I heartily enjoyed the look on the park ranger's face when we pulled in with reservations. I think he was hoping to be able to turn us away because the park was full and we were weird-looking. I guess it was also pretty funny when normal-looking Kryptonite pulled in next and said he was with us. Heh. We got a super spot, set up as it was getting dark, and got a fire started with some of the wet wood we bought at the front desk. Then we sat arounda nd drank beer and wine and coolers and ate yummy yummy food that I'd brought up to share. Smoked gouda, old cheddar, hummous and pita, crackers, pepperoni, veggies and spinach dip... Mmm... Camping is really all about the good food. I think we went to bed about around one, Mermaid told us "No loud sex!" and we giggled and I told her that I could actually be quiet if I tried REALLY hard. Heh. Anyway, we did, and I was, and it was good. Some itme int he wee hours I had to pee, and, well, I got a shirt on, and then said "Fuck it!" and went out pantsless and peed behind a tree. Hee! Nice tree. We woke up to rain in the morning, and it was actually quite lovely, except for the having to pee part. Man, those bathrooms seemed far away then. We waited for a break in the rain and then we all went to the washroom. Ahhh, glorious hot shower! Yay! We got back to our campsite just in time for it to start raining again, so we dragged our fold-out chairs into Mermaid's big 6-man dome tent and had a leisurely breakfast. Lesson Number Two: If the wind picks up and you hear a whoosh that sounds like a fly blowing off a tent, it probably is. See, we were sitting there chatting, we hear the whoosh, and Kryptonite said "Wouldn't it be funny if that was the fly blowing off my tent?" to which I replied "No, no it would not." I didn't really believe it had, and well, neither did he, so we didn't look. Until about 15 minutes later when we were done breaksfast, and yes, sure enough a cord had come untied on the fly and it was half off the tent. Our sleeping bags got wet, but that was about it. So, we piled into the car he was driving (the Kiwi!) and went off to his house to toss them in the dryer and pick up some fresh ones. And yes, I actually met his mom and dad! Hee! And I saw his bedroom and stuff. His parents seem nice, and his younger sister was hungover and still in bed and it was nearly 12:30. Heh. Sunday I got to meet his other sister as well when we picked up my sleeping bag. Anyway, we decided to go out for lunch, and he took us to his local watering hole, Paddy's Pub, and he treated us to lunch. We sat at a big table because it turned out a bunch of his rowdy friends were there. I think Mermaid and I managed to scandalize them a little, or at least titillate them when we implied that Kryptonite was sleeping with the both of us. They were twitting him because he wasn't drinking at 1pm on a Saturday at Paddy's. They're a fun, hard-drinkin' crew, and we bantered and teased the whole meal. Very fun. Even the waitress, Sharon, bugged Kryptonite about his non-alcoholic lunch. Heh. We basically had him chauffeur us around for the afternoon--it was really fun. We went to WalMart to pick up pillows because I forgot mine and his was dead from the rain, and then used clothing shopping. I found a utilitarian white cotton garter belt that I think wil be excellent for playing nurse. Heh. Mermaid totally scored--I found this under the bust leather vest that fit her perfectly. We totally rocked the bins. Oh yeah. Then, because Mermaid and I had been seeing the signs a lot and giggling like retards, we made him drive us to the FoxHill Cheese House. A the very least we figured they woul dhave good cheese, at best, there might be a house made OF cheese. Either way, we were totally down with the cheese. And of course, it turned out to be a fromagerie, where they made some most excellent gouda. We sampled a bit, and Mermaid bought some peppercorn gouda made on the premises and a lovely cranberry wensleydale from the import fridge, and I bought some herb and garlic gouda and some quark, which was really tasty. We also tried the curds, and Kryptonite REALLY liked them and so did we, but they were out. I guess they can't make them fast enough. I'm hoping Kryptonite will be ambitious and will go get some some Tuesday before he comes up and brings me yummy cheese. Oh yes. Squeaky salty cheese curds! Anyway, throughout all this gallivanting, it was hot and sunny in Kentivlle. However as we drove up to Blomidon, we saw that a big cloud was sitting right on top of the cliffs like a fluffy white hat, jauntily set and actually kind of ominous looking. Mount Doom comparisons were made, and we put a fire on as soon as we got to our misty campsite to keep warm. We proceeded to hang out by the fire and drink and eat cheese all evening, which was just lovely. Our next door neighbour, a lone guy, seemed intent on making the Biggest Fire Ever in his fire grate. It was silly. We were all freezing by the end of the night, so Mermaid and I DROVE tot he comfort station to take out our contact lenses before we went to bed. Hee! The height of lazy. That grass was long and cold and wet, dudes! This time both Kryptonie and I had to pee in the wee hours. He put on pants but then couldn't find a shirt, so he went out and promptly lost all his body heat. So, you know, I had to wrap myself all around him to warm him up again. Heh. Then I went out to pee, again with just a shirt on, this time my warm plaid one. I picked a different tree this time, and peed while looking at the stars because of course it had cleared right off and was absolutely beautiful. Kryptonite and I woke up to a nice sunny day, and had some lazy morning sex and then went up to the washroom. Yay! Hot showers! So good for washing the sex goo off. I like neglecting my bething while camping, I don't mind a bit of dirt, but adding another person's body chemistry into the mix is just a little too funky. Then we all farted around and had breakfast and packed up in bits, and pulled up stakes in time for the 1pm checkout. Camping without an agenda or schedule is fabulous. We went down to the beach at hte base of the cliffs and poked around for quartz and other interesting rocks, and skipped stones on the Bay of Fundy. Kryptonite is super good at it. I was kind of out of practice and sucky. Then we hit his parent's house again to pick up my sleeping bag, said our goodbyes, and then Mermaid and I headed off to Frenchy our little hearts out. We hit both of the ones in Coldbrook, had a picnic lunch at the tables at Scotian Gold, had ice cream for dessert and then headed for the road home. Mermaid stopped to take some pictures of a cool tree with her ancient polaroid camera for a collage she wants to do, and then we were on our way. We took the scenic route home, and got back around 7pm. The whole weekend was stree-free and fun, and we're going to try and do it again on Labour Day weekend. Yay! Tell me how jealous you are over here. *smooch*
